Marenisco is located is located in Gogebic County in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A former center of logging, lumber mills, and charcoal manufacturing, the town featured many railway lines, which (when the logging and lumber mill businesses diminished) eventually were abandoned. These abandoned railway lines now form a network of ORV and snowmobile trails which makes the area a perfect locale for snowmobiling enthusiasts.
While the winters are attractive for its winter sports, summer offers its own attractions. Local lakes and streams offer a wide variety of fishing opportunities to the angler. Walleyes, bass, brook trout and muskies are all found in these waters.
With over a hundred thousand acres of forest land available to the public, hunters have the chance to bag their favorite game bird. Grouse, turkeys, woodcock, and waterfowl are in abundance.
Marenisco also finds canoeists and kayakers enjoying the area waterways.
